Coaches Report - Rd 1 The off season all being a positive one on the playing side of things means very little when we heard the sad news of the passing of our MAACA coach Alan Quaife. Alan was a loving father to his two girls Samantha and Alana, and to his late son Stephen. Alan was also a dedicated man to helping those less fortunate than himself and was a proud coach of the MAACA side. We honoured Alan as best we could and donned the black arms bands in a sign of respect and I’m sure he would have been proud of the performance we gave for him.
FIRST XI Boonie continued his unimpressive form from last season and lost yet another toss. Carrum got off to a great start and piled the runs on quickly 1/56 until a fiery spell from Mitch White (4/18) turned the table. Suddenly it was 6/80, after drinks Carrum put in a partnership and battled their way to 8/157cc. Our new look opening pair got off to the most unlucky start when Brayden Roscoe hit a straight drive that the bowler got a finger on which ran out Jake Harrington. VC Matthew Pola came in and put on a 50+ partnership with Dos before Poles was out on 24. With Boonie moving from the Openers position down to 5, we needed a captains knock and making 28 with JLos 18 got us within reach of victory. With losing daylight and losing quick wickets we chased down the total in the last over of the day with Mitch White hitting the winning runs capping off a brilliant day for himself. CCC 8/157 M White 4/18 B Roscoe 51
SECOND XI A new look side with a new captain, James Cameron has taken over the reigns stepping up from vice captaincy to take care of the side this year. We also had 2 debutants in the side with Josh McIndoe and Ben Millar who both put together great performances. Josh top scoring with 24* and Ben taking his first wicket with 1/7 off 5. We done really well not to get bowled out against a good bowling attack, finishing on 8/95. Defending a low total can be demoralising at times and boys never die attitude gave us hope, a valiant effort til the end but unfortunately Carrum chased the total 9 down. A rewarding performance with plenty of positives and confidence for the young group to take forward. STCC 8/95 J McIndoe 24* J Thornell 2/3 off 5 L Philp 2/16 off 8 L Chevalier 2/25 off 8 A great effort by the playing squad this weekend and a tough test this week against Crib Point CC, let’s put in the work and get 2 wins this week.
